RFP Snapshot: Candidates must apply for the fellowship under the guidance of a Sponsor—a scientist (tenured, tenure-track or equivalent position) capable of providing mentorship to the Fellow. In addition to aiding in the planning, execution and supervision of the proposed research, the Sponsor’s role is to foster the development of the Fellow’s overall knowledge, technical and analytical skills, and capacity for scientific inquiry.

August 31: Pardee Foundation Award – Elsa U. Pardee Foundation

Additional Details

RFP Snapshot: The Elsa U. Pardee Foundation funds research to investigators in United States non-profit institutions proposing research directed toward identifying new treatments or cures for cancer. The Foundation funds projects for a one year period which will allow establishment of capabilities of new cancer researchers, or new cancer approaches by established cancer researchers. It is anticipated that this early stage funding by the Foundation may lead to subsequent and expanded support using government agency funding.

Max Amount and Period: 1 year, No Limit

Eligibility: Post-docs who are on the tenure track and have a tenured mentor are eligible. Priority is given to researchers at non-profit institutions in the United States who are new to the field of cancer research, or to established research investigators examining new approaches to cancer cure.

August 31: AACR Clinical Oncology Research (CORE) Training Fellowships – American Association for Cancer Research

RFP Snapshot: The AACR Clinical Oncology Research (CORE) Training Fellowships Program is designed to provide an effective industry-academic clinical practicum with a unique training opportunity to develop academic clinicians in drug development. Each fellowship provides $100,000 over one year for the fellow to work on site at the facility of one of the AACR’s pharmaceutical industry partners.

Max Amount and Period: $100,000 for 1 year

Eligibility: Applicant must 1) have a medical degree and not currently be a candidate for a further doctoral degree and 2) have enrolled in an accredited hematology/oncology or radiation oncology fellowship program at an academic, medical, or research institution within the United States.

September 8: Training Program with a Focus on Research in Lymphoma (Lab and Translational Tracks) - Lymphoma Research Foundation

RFP Snapshot: The LRF Scientific Advisory Board will select up to 6 Scholars in each of the two tracks (Clinical and Lab/Translational) to become LRF Scholars and participate in the Lymphoma Scientific Research Mentoring Program. LRF Scholars attend an initial LSRMP workshop which is four days in length. The workshop will take place March 7-11, 2022 in Scottsdale, AZ.

Max Amount and Period: $10,000 over 2 years

Eligibility: A postdoc fellow with no more than 7 years as a fellow; a clinical fellow; an instructor within their first four years; an assistant professor in their first 3 years.

September 8: Jamie Peykoff Follicular Lymphoma Initiative Postdoctoral Fellowship Grants - Lymphoma Research Foundation

RFP Snapshot: A minimum of one fellowship grant will be awarded to a project focused exclusively on research in adult follicular lymphoma. All projects must be focused on hypothesis-driven research in lymphoma – the Foundation considers “lymphoma” to encompass all recognized lymphoma subtypes as well as chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Projects which combine the study of lymphoma/CLL with another cancer or hematologic malignancy (including myeloma and other leukemias) will not be accepted.

Max Amount and Period: $105,000 over 2 years

Eligibility: Applicants must hold an MD, PhD, or equivalent degree. MD applicants must have completed at least two years (24 months) of their fellowship work at the start of the award period. September 15: Paul Calabresi K12 Career Development Award – NIH/NCI

RFP Snapshot: The K12 Clinical Oncology program supports the development of postdoctoral scholars and junior faculty through patient oriented cancer research training, curricula, and mentored projects.

Max Amount and Period: $200,000 over 2 years (salary support); $50,000 over 2 years (research and travel)

Eligibility: The K12 Program expects applicants to be postdoctoral level trainees or early junior faculty level trainees who plan to conduct, or are conducting, clinical oncology research. They must be able to devote 75% professional effort to the program for a minimum of two years. Applicants cannot have been a PI on an NIH research grant (such as R01, R29, or P01) or a non-NIH equivalent to these grants.

October 1: CRI Irvington Postdoctoral Fellowship to Promote Racial Diversity – Cancer Research Institute

RFP Snapshot: CRI seeks hypothesis-driven, mechanistic studies in both immunology and tumor immunology that aim to directly impact our understanding of the immune system’s role in cancer.

Max Amount and Period: $171,000 over 3 years

Eligibility: Applicants must be African American/Black, Hispanic, or Latinx. have a doctoral degree and be working in areas directly related to immunology or cancer immunology. Applicants must have a doctoral degree by the date of award activation and must conduct their proposed research under a sponsor who holds a formal appointment as an assistant professor or higher rank at the host institution.

October 15: ACS Postdoctoral Fellowships – American Cancer Society

RFP Snapshot: Fellowships are designed to support individuals in programs of research training and study to enable new investigators to competitively qualify for independent careers in cancer research.

Max Amount and Period: $175,500 over 3 years

Eligibility: Researchers who are within 3 years of receiving a doctoral degree may apply for initial funding to start training for an independent career in cancer research (including basic, preclinical, clinical, cancer control, psychosocial, behavioral, epidemiology, health services and health policy research). Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents.

Due Date: October 15, 2021

December 1: Physician-Scientist Training Award – Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation

Additional Details

RFP Snapshot: This award will provide a funding source that will enable these individuals to pursue research intensively (at least 80% effort) for up to four years, while, if they wish to maintain their clinical skills, continuing to be clinically active (no more than 20% effort). In addition, the Foundation will retire up to $100,000 of any medical school debt still owed by an award recipient.

Max Amount and Period: $460,000 over 4 years

Eligibility: Physician-scientist applicants (MDs and DOs only) must have completed their residencies and clinical training, be U.S. Specialty Board eligible prior to the award start date, and be able to devote at least 80% of their time and effort to research. MD/PhDs are not eligible to apply. Applicants cannot be pursuing a PhD.
